At the Center
EDITION 5 • SEPTMBER 2026
Dear Beautiful Soul,
September has a particular quality of light.
If you live in the Northeast, you already know it. The air shifts almost overnight — still warm, but carrying something underneath it. Crisp at the edges. The kind of light that arrives low and golden in the morning and reminds you, without a word, that something is changing.
I just returned from a month of travel — family, sun, celebration, the fullness of a summer lived well. And I came home to exactly this. September waiting. That familiar shift in the air. And something in me that was ready for it.
This month, for me, has become a season of its own. August is when I celebrate — fully, intentionally, all month long. September is the exhale after. The reset. The moment I return to myself before I return to everything else. Not because something went wrong. Because I know that the woman I am becoming requires a foundation I have to keep choosing.
I have these moments from time to time — I call it back to basics. The form changes. Sometimes it means solo travel, a deliberate stepping away. Sometimes it asks nothing more than intention. A quiet, conscious decision to return to what is true before returning to everything else. This is one of those times.
The calendar fills. The commitments return. Work picks back up. The roles you carry — the ones that never actually left — resume their full velocity. Because if we're honest, summer didn't take them away. You were still the daughter, the friend, the professional, the person everyone counts on. You simply found a different pace. A slower one. One that made room for longer conversations, for lingering, for showing up without the clock running. Summer gave you an almost unspoken permission to be more present to the life you already have.
And now September arrives. And with it, a quiet question no one says out loud: do you keep that? Or do you return to the rigor — the scheduling, the achieving, the forward motion — and let the softness of summer quietly fold back into memory until next year?
The question is not whether you can carry it. A life as full as yours has already answered that.
The question is: from where are you carrying it?
And here is what I want you to sit with: does the life you are returning to — the things you give your energy to — bring you joy? Even if the doing of it is hard, does the output of it bring light to someone or something you love? Because sometimes the answer to that question tells you everything about whether you are living from your heart or simply from your history.
For me, back to basics looks like radical stillness. Prayer. Fasting. Meditation. Contemplation. A conscious clearing of the spaces where I think and create and hear God most clearly. Speaking to Him more. And becoming quiet enough to actually listen. Time outside. Mindful movement. Presence in my body.
At the center of all of it — gratitude. Not as a seasonal practice. As a way of life. The daily, deliberate act of recalling what God has done — the big things, the small things, the quiet things that only you and He know about. I keep a gratitude journal because I need the record. Because remembering is its own form of faith.
I share this not as a prescription. You are bio-individual. What returns you to yourself will look entirely different from what returns me. But I offer it as a confession: even the woman who built a sanctuary has to keep walking back into her own.
This is what I have learned — about myself and about every woman I have had the privilege of walking with: we can hold enormous amounts of life when we are moving from the right center. When the heart is the filter, not the afterthought. When love — not obligation, not expectation, not sheer momentum — is the frequency everything passes through first.
Anahata, the heart chakra, sits at the precise center of the body's energy system. Three below: ground, flow, fire. Three above: voice, vision, the divine. It is, quite literally, the bridge. Between the physical and the spiritual. Between the woman shaped by everything she has lived and the woman she is still becoming.
You have been doing the foundational work. Quietly, in the body, in the ordinary moments of these past months. Building safety. Finding your flow again. Reclaiming your own authority. And now you arrive here — at your own center — and the question changes. It is no longer what can I hold?
It becomes: what do I want to hold, and how?
That is the invitation of Anahata. Not to do less. To meet more of life from love. To let the heart be the place every commitment, every relationship, every demand passes through before it receives your energy. To let intention be the first move — and love be the language of that intention.
I am not asking you to transform your life this month. I am asking you to try one thing: before you say yes to anything, pause long enough to ask — is this coming from desire, or from duty?
The answer will tell you everything.
With truth, with care, and with unwavering belief in the power within you,

Mind — Mental Architecture
The intention behind the yes
Before September fills your calendar, there is a decision worth making that most women skip entirely — not what to add, but from where to enter it. Research on cognitive framing shows that the same task performed from obligation versus meaning produces measurably different stress responses in the body. The brain registers the difference between "I have to" and "I choose to" — and responds accordingly. Intention is not soft. It is structural.
Micro-practice:
Before your next commitment, pause and name your internal posture in three words. Not a goal — a frequency. I am showing up from love. From presence. From service. Notice what shifts in the body when you do.
Body — Physical Rhythm
Your heart already knows
The vagus nerve runs directly through the heart — which means the heart is not just a metaphor for emotional center. It is a physiological one. Heart rate variability (HRV), the subtle variation in time between heartbeats, is one of the most accurate measures of nervous system regulation available. When the heart rhythm is coherent, it signals safety to the brain. When it is erratic, the body braces. Love — real, felt love — is one of the fastest ways to shift that signal.
Micro-practice:
Place one hand on your chest. Breathe in for five counts, out for five. Do this for ninety seconds — long enough for your nervous system to register the shift. This is heart coherence breathing. It is the body doing the heart's work. Come back to this whenever September starts to feel like too much at once.

Gratitude as a way of life
There is a version of gratitude that appears in November and disappears by December. That is not the kind I am talking about. I am talking about the daily, deliberate act of recalling what God has done — the big things, the small things, the quiet things that only you and He know about. The things that happened exactly when they needed to. A gratitude journal is not a wellness trend. It is a record. And the act of keeping it is its own form of faith — because it trains the mind to look for evidence of grace before it looks for evidence of lack.
Micro-practice:
Before you open your phone in the morning, name three things. Not three general things — three specific things. The more specific the memory, the more deeply it anchors. This is the practice beneath the practice.

SOS WELLNESS RETREAT SPOTLIGHT
When was the last time you were fully present? Not present-ish. Not present between notifications. Not present while mentally composing your response before the other person finishes talking. Not present at the dinner table while your mind is already in tomorrow's meeting. Fully, completely, undistractedly here — in your body, in the moment, in your own life.
For most high-performing women, presence has become the rarest luxury of all. Not because they don't want it. Because the life they have built makes it harder and harder to find. And so they keep moving. Achieving. Holding. Managing. Showing up for everyone. And quietly wondering why a life this full can still feel like something is missing.
That something is you. Present. In it.
The Luxury of Presence is a five-day immersive retreat on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean — designed not to take you away from your life, but to return you to it. Fully. You will arrive and exhale — maybe for the first time in months. You will ground into your body and your breath. You will receive — rest, nourishment, stillness, and the kind of space that lets you hear yourself think again. You will expand into what becomes possible when you are no longer running. And you will flow — back into the life you love, carrying presence with you as a practice, not a memory.
This is not a vacation. It is an investment in the woman behind everything you have built.
Fourteen women. Five days. One island chosen on purpose.
If your body relaxed while reading this, pay attention. This retreat is for you. Learn more or reach out directly at [email protected].
