What the Heart Already Knew
EDITION NO. 05 • SEPTEMBER 15, 2026
The SOS Soul Note arrives mid-month. A breath between newsletters.
Presence Doesn't Ask for a Membership Card.
I am writing this to you from Rome, the night before visiting the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.
Today I walked through ruins that were standing thousands of years before anyone I know was born. Buildings constructed without the tools we consider essential — without the technology, the machinery, the systems we have convinced ourselves we cannot live without. And yet there they stand. Still breathing. Still beautiful. Still stopping people mid-stride on an ordinary Monday afternoon in September.
I kept asking myself: what were they moved by?
What did they believe they were building toward that made them reach that far — that high — with nothing but human hands and a vision larger than themselves?
And then, quietly, the question turned: what are you building? And from where?
Where Reverence Lives
The heart already knew. I am just catching up to what it has been telling me all along.
Today I will walk into the Vatican. The Sistine Chapel. St. Peter's Basilica.
I am not Catholic. But I have never believed that God belongs to a denomination. I believe He lives in every space where human beings have poured their reverence — in ancient stone, in art that took lifetimes to create, in the quiet that descends when people know they are standing somewhere sacred. Reverence doesn't require a denomination. Presence doesn't ask for a membership card.
I go to meet God where He is — that's anywhere. I always have.
And what I know, standing in this city at the end of a September that began with radical stillness — with prayer, with clearing, with the deliberate act of returning to myself before returning to everything else — is this: The heart has been the filter all along.
Not just a concept. Not just a newsletter theme. A lived, breathing, undeniable truth.
Tonight I sat at a table with people I love. My cousins. People who carry pieces of my history in their own hands. We laughed. We lingered. We were just — there. And my heart was so full I had to stop and notice it.
When you decide — really decide — to let love be the frequency everything passes through first, presence stops being something you practice and becomes something you inhabit.
The reset I began in late August was never about the practice. It was about creating enough stillness to hear myself again, to hear God clearly. To remember — not learn, but remember — what matters and why.
Rome has been answering that question in stone and light and the laughter of people I love.
Micro-Practice
Find a quiet moment today — even two minutes. Place one hand on your chest. Take three slow breaths.
Then ask yourself honestly: what am I building right now, and from where?
Not from your calendar. Not from obligation or expectation or the weight of what everyone else needs from you. From where — inside yourself — is the energy of your life currently flowing?
If the answer gives you pause, that pause is the beginning of something.
The heart already knows. Give it a moment to tell you.
With truth, with care, and with a full heart from Rome,
