The Receipt
EDITION NO. 04 β’ AUGUST 15, 2026
The SOS Soul Note arrives mid-month. A breath between newsletters.
Dear Beautiful Soul,
I am writing this from Grenada.
The island is quiet this morning in the way that only islands can be β a stillness that isn't absence, but presence. The kind that asks nothing of you and gives everything. I arrived yesterday, and something in my body that had been slightly braced β in the way that bodies brace when they have been carrying a life β released on the descent. Before the wheels touched the ground. That is what chosen places do. They recognize you.
August is the month I consciously come back to myself.
It began on August 1st β a decision to slow down and reflect. Then the 8th β my birthday, 8/8, two infinities standing side by side. Then on the 23rd comes our wedding anniversary. This year marks twelve years. What most people don't know is that we began in January β quietly, just the two of us, a decision made in the particular way that real decisions are made: privately, certainly, without requiring an audience to make it true. But August holds the public covenant. The day our village gathered, placed our rings in a box, and passed them β hand to hand β through every person in attendance. Not just witnesses. Holders. The covenant moved through all of them before it came back to us. I have never forgotten what it felt like to receive those rings back, with overwhelming love from so many hands that loved us.
That is what I mean when I say August grounds me. It is the month of my beginning and my belonging, layered one on top of the other, year after year.
This year, I arrived at both differently.
Because somewhere between the birthday and the flight to Grenada, I found myself sitting with a question I have never quite asked in this form before. Not what is next β I know what I am building. Sanctuary of Self is building momentum. The retreat vision is alive, with the inaugural experience planned for February 2027. The desires God has placed in my heart are real and named and mine. The question beneath all of that is this:
How do I ensure I am ready for what has already been prepared for me?
That is a different question entirely. It is not ambition. It is not strategy. It is the question of a woman who has learned β sometimes gently, sometimes through debilitating back pain that vanished within an hour of a door closing β that the universe is not waiting for her plan. There is a greater plan. The invitation is simply to be prepared to receive it.
I speak from my own faith β I believe in God. You may call it the Divine, the Universe, a higher power, your deepest inner knowing. The name matters less than the truth beneath it: we are not building this life alone. We are co-creating it. And co-creation requires readiness.
I think about the receipts now. The confirmations that arrived before I had the context to understand them.
The passports. Our family became Grenadian citizens, and the passports arrived on a Tuesday. Four days later, I received notice that my role had been eliminated. I did not connect those two events immediately. But I understand now that I was not being redirected in that phone call. The next chapter was already being built β quietly, behind the scenes, the way the Divine tends to operate β while I was still showing up faithfully to the last one. The passport was the receipt. The door closing was the release.
The pain leaving within an hour. Months of debilitating back pain, managed because managing was what I did. And then the call came. And the pain was gone. The body had been carrying what the mind refused to acknowledge. When the mind finally received permission, the body exhaled. That was not coincidence. That was my body confirming what my soul already knew: this is the right direction. You are finally moving the way you were always meant to move.
The rings, touched by every hand in that room. Twelve years ago, our village didn't just witness our covenant β they held it. They passed it between them. They prayed over what had already been put in motion. I did not fully understand then what I understand now: you cannot build what you were never meant to carry alone. The sanctuary β the real one, the inner one β is not a solo construction. It is built in relationship. With God. With the people placed in your path.
Your receipts will not look like mine. They rarely announce themselves. They arrive as a conversation that changed your direction, a body that finally stopped after years of pushing, a door that closed and left you β unexpectedly β in exactly the right room. They are quiet. Specific. Undeniable once you are willing to name them.
Every receipt pointing to the same truth: I was being prepared. I am still being prepared.
So this is the question I am sitting with in Grenada, on the morning of August 15th, with the sea outside my window doing what water does β moving, always, toward its own return:
What does it mean to be ready? Not ready as in finished. Not ready as in certain. Ready as in β open. Unguarded. Cleared of what I have outgrown and growing into what is still becoming. Vessels are not passive. They are prepared. Intentionally. With care. With the willingness to be emptied of what no longer belongs so that what is coming has somewhere to land.
I was crowned 49. I am in the most purposeful season of my life. And I am asking not for a bigger vision β the vision is already large enough to require faith β but for the alignment and the readiness that allows me to hold it when it arrives.
If you are somewhere in this question too β not at a beginning, not at an ending, but at a preparation point β I want you to know that the receipts are there. Look back at what arrived before you understood it. Look at what your body confirmed before your mind agreed. Look at who showed up, what doors closed, what pain left the moment you finally stopped fighting the direction you were always being moved toward.
The greater plan was building. You were being built.
The question was never whether it was coming. The question is whether we will be ready to receive it.
I am tending to that answer. Here, on this island, in this month, in this year.
What receipt have you been holding without reading it?
From Grenada, with my whole self present.
With truth, with care, and with unwavering belief in the power within you,
