City Of Jewels
EDITION 4 • AUGUST 2026
Dear Beautiful Soul,
August arrives this year with something different in it. I can feel it — a kind of settling, a particular quality that comes when a chapter is genuinely closing and you know it.
I turn 49 this month. And if I'm honest, I'm less interested in the celebration than I am in the arrival. Because getting here — to this version of myself, this work, this life — required something I didn't fully know I was missing for most of the twenty-five years that came before it.
It wasn't discipline. I had more than enough of that. A global career built on it. Planfulness, follow-through, the capacity to get it done no matter what — those were never the problem. What I was missing was something quieter and more essential: trust. Trust that I was already enough without the next achievement. Trust that rest wouldn't cost me everything. Trust that the quiet voice rising inside my own body—the one I spent years overriding—was telling me the truth.
That distinction changed everything. Because when I couldn't tell the difference between willpower and personal power, I kept spending one to compensate for the absence of the other. I accumulated. I proved. I produced. And somewhere in that accumulation, I became very fluent in the language of wholeness and very practiced at living just above the surface of my own life.
There came a point — not dramatic, not announced — when my body simply stopped cooperating with the pace I had set. Months of pain I managed because managing was what I did. And then one day, a door closed. A chapter I had poured into was over, unexpectedly, in the span of a phone call. And within an hour — not days, not weeks — the debilitating pain was gone.
I don't say that lightly. I say it because I can't explain it any other way except this: the body had been carrying what the mind refused to put down. And the moment the mind received permission to let go, the body exhaled.
That is not a coincidence.
That is intelligence.
The kind no credential can teach you and no achievement can replicate. It lives in the same place the ancient wisdom of the chakra system calls Manipura — the solar plexus chakra. Sanskrit for "city of jewels." Its element is fire. Its message is perhaps the simplest—and most radical—two words we can embody: I can.
Not as an affirmation. Not a mantra you repeat until you believe it. A state. One your soul already inhabits — waiting beneath every layer of evidence you've been gathering to prove you're finally ready.
This month, we tend the fire. Not to burn through. To let it illuminate what has always been true about you.
With truth, with care, and with unwavering belief in the power within you,

Mind — Mental Architecture
When Willpower Runs Out and Personal Power Begins
The difference between forcing and knowing is a nervous system state. Willpower is effort against resistance — cortisol-driven, finite, and ultimately unsustainable. Personal power is something else entirely: the quiet certainty that doesn't require argument, external validation, or momentum to sustain itself. Neuroscience distinguishes between threat-response motivation (where we act from fear of consequences) and autonomy motivation (where we act from self-determined values). Research consistently shows that autonomy-based motivation is more sustainable, more creative, and ultimately more satisfying than behavior driven primarily by fear or external pressure.
Micro-practice:
This week, when you find yourself pushing against something — a decision, a relationship, a choice — pause and ask: Is this willpower or personal power? Willpower has a tightness to it. Personal power has a stillness. Notice the difference. The answer comes faster than you think.
Body — Physical Rhythm
Your Solar Plexus Is Not a Metaphor
Manipura sits in the upper abdomen and is associated with the digestive system, the pancreas, and what modern science understands as the gut-brain connection. Embedded within the lining of the gastrointestinal tract is the enteric nervous system, containing more than 100 million nerve cells—so complex that neuroscientists often refer to it as the body's "second brain." This is why anxiety settles in the stomach, why grief can feel heavy in the gut, and why the body often recognizes truth before the mind has words for it. One of the simplest ways to support this mind-body connection is through diaphragmatic, or belly, breathing. Allowing the abdomen to expand with each inhale gently stimulates the vagus nerve, helping shift the nervous system toward safety, regulation, and calm.
Micro-practice:
Place one hand on your belly. Inhale for four counts, letting your belly rise fully. Exhale slowly for six. Three rounds. Do this when you feel self-doubt forming before it becomes a story your mind runs with. You are speaking directly to the body's second brain. It is always listening.
Soul — Spiritual Authority
"I Can" Is a State, Not a Statement
The spiritual message of Manipura is among the most misunderstood in popular wellness: I can is not something you work your way toward. It is something you already are, beneath the proof you've been gathering that you're almost ready. Spiritual authority — what I call the Soul pillar of the SOS Method — doesn't begin when you've finally earned it. It begins the moment you stop requiring permission to exercise it. The threshold between when I'm ready and now is not more preparation. It is trust.
Micro-practice:
Sit quietly, hand on your solar plexus. Ask yourself: What am I waiting for permission to begin? Let the answer come without editing it. Then ask: What if the permission was always mine to give? Sit with what rises. Write it down if it wants to move through you.

Some places you visit. Some places you choose—and keep choosing until the choosing becomes belonging. Grenada is that place for me. Not simply an island I discovered, but one I fell in love with through deep connection, claimed through commitment, and now hold as a second home in the fullest sense of the word. When I welcome fourteen accomplished women there in February, I am not simply bringing them somewhere beautiful. I am inviting them into a place that has become part of my own healing, joy, and restoration. That is a different kind of invitation entirely.
What makes this retreat unlike anything else is not a single credential or certification. It is the integration of a lifetime of experience: twenty-five years helping high-performing women navigate demanding careers, training in integrative nutrition and holistic health coaching, French classical culinary arts, doctoral study in holistic medicine, and a philosophy rooted in one truth—that mind, body, and soul were never meant to be managed as separate parts of ourselves. They have always been one living, interconnected system.
The Luxury of Presence is designed with intention at every level. Over five days, you will move through guided alignment sessions, nourishing meals, mindful movement, breathwork, meaningful conversation, and the kind of stillness that only becomes possible when you've truly stepped away from the demands of everyday life. This is not simply time away. It is an opportunity to recalibrate—to reconnect with yourself beneath the roles, responsibilities, and expectations that so often define your days.
You will return home carrying more than beautiful memories. You will leave with practical tools, sustainable practices, renewed clarity, and a circle of women who witnessed you not for what you accomplished, but for who you are.
This is what it looks like when luxury and transformation are no longer separate experiences, but partners in the same journey.
Fourteen seats. One island. Come home to yourself.
